I wrote this poem and called it Alternative Bedtime Prayer back in 2011 or so…I then read it aloud over the phone to one of my dearest friends, who immediately asked permission to set it to music. You can hear the final song embedded below. (He called it Billy’s Prayer, as Billy is his nickname for me.)
Alternative Bedtime Prayer
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Universe my Soul shall take
So gently, lovingly
Back to where it’s meant to be
To the Stars from whence it pulled away
To have been here today
May my Atoms dis-assimilate
And journey off to find new mates
May I find mySelf, alive and well
With memory of this short, sweet spell
On Earth, as it is, in Heaven
Amen
